Football for Friendship Celebrated ‘Down Under’ With Ecological Initiative at Melbourne Zoo

On Saturday 2nd June, the Australian delegation heading to Moscow for the Gazprom International Children’s social programme Football for Friendship (F4F) held a farewell event at Melbourne Zoo for its young Ambassadors Luca Durso and Noah Borg.
The 2018 Football for Friendship programme is transforming a FIFA World Cup dream into reality for Luca Durso and Noah Borg, both aged 12, who leave for Russia on Thursday on an all expenses paid trip to represent Australia at the F4F programme.
Members of the delegation and their families took part in the farewell event supporting rare and endangered animal species in line with Football For Friendship’s ecologocial initiative within its educational and humanitarian mission.

The aim of the programme is to promote essential values embodied by football with the younger generation such as respect for other cultures and nationalities as well as equality.
In order to promote the defense of wildlife and to increase interest of new generations in conservation and protection of the world fauna, 32 football Teams of Friendship have been named after rare and endangered species of animals. Teams were formed on the principle of friendship that allows children of different nationalities and cultures to find common language, learn to make compromises and achieve victories together.
Luca Durso will represent Australia as a Player in the African Wild Dog team while Noah Borg will attend as a Young Journalist. They will join other 12-year-old football players and journalists from 211 countries and regions to participate in the 8-day programme.
This opportunity is the result of the terrific ongoing football partnership with Football For Friendship (RUS) and Lengo Football Academy (AUS).

BACKGROUND
Since 2013, PJSC Gazprom has been organizing the International Children’s social programme Football for Friendship. The key values promoted by the programme participants include friendship, equality, fairness, health, peace, devotion, victory, tradition and honour. The participants are Young Players (girls and boys, including those physically challenged), as well as Young Journalists covering the F4F events within the framework of the Football for Friendship International Children’s Press Center. Geographical scope of the programme expands annually: from 8 countries in 2013 to 211 countries in 2018. For the past five years, more than 3,700 people have participated in the programme. Football for Friendship is supported by FIFA, UEFA, International Olympic Committee, football federations of various countries, international children's charity funds, and world's leading football clubs.

The Australian delegation recently arrived in Moscow to attend the 2018 Gazprom Football For Friendship Programme. As a final farewell activity they met at the Melbourne Zoo with their families and other members of the Australian delegation to take part in some media activities and to highlight an important ecological initiative of the Programme, ‘fighting extinction’.

The Australian delegation, including Luca Durso and Noah Borg have recently arrived in Moscow to attend the 2018 Gazprom Football For Friendship Programme. As a final farewell activity they met at the Melbourne Zoo with their families and other members of the Australian delegation to take part in some media activities and to highlight an important ecological initiative of the Programme, ‘fighting extinction’.
Children from the 211 countries will be divided into 32 International Friendship Teams, named after endangered animals of all the continents of the world. Australia will feature in the African Wild Dog team with other children from Russia, Paraguay, Chinese Taipei, Grenada and Haiti.
The attached photographs feature the delegation at the African Wild Dog exhibit and a close encounter with a lemur, the animal chosen as the official mascot of the 2018 event. The delegation is wearing clothing from Football Federation Australia, which is also the official clothing worn by the 2018 Australian FIFA World Cup Team. The delegation wore their uniforms upon arrival in Moscow, receiving attention from dozens of ‘Football for Friendship’ photographers and journalists.

Countdown to Moscow for the Overnewton Journalists

Year 7 student, Noah Borg, and College Head of Sport, Nikki Little, have commenced their journey to Moscow as part of the Australian delegation who will be attending the 2018 Gazprom Football for Friendship Program. This global initiative, which takes place in the lead up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, will unite delegates from 211 countries through football and reinforce the significance of nine key values, including friendship, equality and peace.
Noah will represent Australia as a Young Journalist and, while in Moscow, will complete a three day Friendship Camp at the International Children’s Press Centre. Young journalists in the press centre cover the events of the program in their countries, prepare news for national and international sports media, participate in the creation of materials for the Football for Friendship TV channel, the children's Football for Friendship newspaper, and the program's official radio station.
At the 2018 Children’s Forum, children and adults will discuss the promotion and development of the program's values throughout the world. During the forum, children will meet and speak with their peers from other countries, famous footballers, journalists and public figures, and also become young ambassadors, who in the future will continue to independently promote universal values among their peers.
Noah will be a roving reporter at the Football for Friendship World Championship where ‘friendship teams’ are organised on the principle of Football for Friendship: athletes of different nationalities, sex and physical abilities play in the same team. Noah will support his new friend Luca Durso, Australia’s Young Player, who is part of the African Wild Dog team with children from Russia, Paraguay, Chinese Taipei, Grenada and Haiti. Each of the 32 International Friendship Teams are named after endangered animals of all the continents of the world.
The culmination of this once in a lifetime opportunity is a role in the Opening Ceremony of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and tickets to the opening match, Russia versus Saudi Arabia. For a passionate footballer like Noah, this event will cap off an incredible week of literacy, football and values education.
This will be an incredible experience for both Noah and Nikki and we wish them all the very best as they embark on this adventure. We look forward to hearing some wonderful stories when they return.
Young participants from 211 countries and regions arrive in Moscow for Football 4 Friendship
The final events of the Sixth Season of the Gazprom International Children's social programme Football for Friendship have started in Moscow.
1500 children and adults arrived to the capital of Russia to participate in the global project. This year Football for Friendship united 211 countries and regions of the world. The programme is supported by FIFA, UEFA, the UN, heads of the national football federations, as well as by the representatives of the government institutions. Over 300 journalists of the leading international media will arrive to Moscow for covering the final events of the programme.
During the next several days the Young Ambassadors of the key universal values of the programme - friendship, equality, fairness, health, peace, devotion, victory, traditions and honour will be involved in a highly topical educational agenda. Thus, within the framework of the three-day International Friendship Camp the sports trainings and practical master classes with the football world stars and professional coaches will be organized for the Young Players, Young Journalists and Young Trainers of the programme. Within the social section of the educational agenda the children will be addressed by the public figures, representatives of the funds for protection of the nature, the journalists of the leading Russian and foreign media will share their experience with the young talents of the Football for Friendship International Children’s Press сenter. All the young participants will attend the classes of the Nine Values School which was estimated by the UN as the unique educational programme as well as participate in the Olympic lesson and the International Children`s Ecological Forum.
On June 12, at the end of the trainings, the 32 International Teams of Friendship, named after rare and extinct animals, will meet in the field in the framework of the 2018 Football for Friendship World Championship. The International Football for Friendship Children’s Forum that will be held in Moskvarium – a unique complex which is the largest roofed oceanarium of Europe will become the culmination of the final events of the programme. Young Ambassadors of the Football for Friendship will attend the main world football event of 2018 - an opening match of the FIFA World Cup Russia.

Australia, 24 April 2018 – The 2018 Football for Friendship (F4F) programme is transforming a FIFA World Cup dream into reality for two Aussie youngsters, Luca Selby Durso and Noah Borg who have been selected to fly to Russia on an all expenses paid trip to represent Australia at the F4F programme.
Taking place in Moscow, Russia on 8-15 June ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, F4F is an annual International Children’s social programme organized by Gazprom, an international company supporting global social projects and setting new standards in relation to social policy. The aim of the programme is to promote essential values embodied by football with the younger generation such as respect for other cultures and nationalities as well as equality.
Selby Durso will represent Australia as a Player while Noah Borg will attend as a Young Journalist, giving the country even more presence ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.They will join other 12-year-old football players and journalists from 211 countries and regions to participate in the 8-day programme.
“I am passionate about football and would love to play for the Socceroos one day. It is a dream to represent Australia and visit Russia to see the World Cup,” said Durso.
Meanwhile, Borg said: “The nine values of the program - friendship, equality, fairness, health, peace, devotion, victory, traditions and honour - mean a lot to me. It doesn’t matter where you come from or what you can do, we are all equal and we should treat everyone the same and with respect.”
A total of 32 International Teams of Friendship will compete at the Football for Friendship World Championship on 12 June 2018. In the days leading up to the tournament, each player will be trained by Young Coaches who are football players ranging between 14 to 16 years of age from various countries. The Championship and training sessions will form the majority of the programme in addition to the Sixth International Football for Friendship Children’s Forum. The forum will see participants discussing how to promote the programme’s core values of friendship, equality, fairness, health, peace, devotion, victory, traditions and honour. The programme concludes with all F4F participants attending the opening match of the FIFA World Cup on 14 June 2018 as hosts Russia take on Saudi Arabia at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
Football for Friendship is supported by FIFA, UEFA, the International Olympic Committee and football federations and leading clubs around the world. More than 5,000 media outlets worldwide will cover the programme, which is considered a unique educational programme by the United Nations.
